Training as Diocesan Lay Reader

Training as Diocesan Lay Reader

I am interested in training as a Diocesan Lay Reader in the Church of Ireland.

Several Church of Ireland Dioceses have elected to make this course part of their Diocesan Lay Reader training programme.

The Diocesan Reader training programme includes the full CCTP course with Spirituality and Self–Understanding as its designated elective. In addition, students on this programme will undertake two additional courses on Worship and Preaching through the Open Learning Centre at Queens University, Belfast. This will be complemented by practical training organised locally within the Diocese. In order to complete the CCTP as part of Diocesan Reader training, you will need the approval of your Warden of Readers.

The early mornings to CITI were worth it – apart from the lovely tray–bakes, I made many friends, and had the space and time to study in a friendly, informative, and supportive learning environment .… This course will enhance and empower me to better to serve my Lord and Saviour in Church and in the Diocese.

The Certificate in Christian Theology and Practice is excellent preparation for Reader Ministry. It offers instruction in worship which will be integrated with your local placement, as well as essential grounding in biblical studies and theology which will be vital for preaching and worship leadership as well as your own personal discipleship. Students on this pathway will take the elective in Spirituality and Self–Understanding which offer resources which will enrich and support their own vital foundations for personal discipleship and Reader ministry. Study alongside both adult discipleship learners, those preparing for for Ordained Local Ministries and students exploring ordained ministry offers the opportunity to foster cooperation and community with committed Christians which will enhance and support the ministry of Readers.
