Timothy Eldon

 -

My name is Timothy Eldon, I come from the parish of Drumcree in the Diocese of Armagh, and at 25 find myself Senior Student, whilst also being the most junior student!

Before coming to CITI, I studied history at Aberystwyth University, and spent three years working with churches in the Bro Padarn and Bro Ystwyth Ministry Areas in the Diocese of St David’s and Aberdyfi English Presbyterian Chapel.

I began sensing a call to ministry whilst still at school. What began as a joke with friends on account of my bombastic style in the Debating Society, became a serious thought after attending a taster lecture in Theology at Queen’s University, Belfast. I applied to Aberdeen to study Divinity, but on results day found myself placed in my second choice at Aberystwyth. I had a distinct feeling then that God was sending me to Aberystwyth for a reason. It was during my time there in Holy Trinity and St Mike’s that I felt strongly God’s call to ministry, and His equipping me for the task. I still feel a certain hiraeth for Wales, but I have never doubted that I should serve in the Church of Ireland.

Studying at CITI can be a challenge in various ways, not least the interruptions of a global pandemic, but it remains a great joy to grasp the things of God and learn how to communicate them to the world.

I am usually to be found rattling about the sacristy, whistling hymn tunes or ranting about the BCP and the 39 Articles.
