Down & Dromore (Full–Time, 3rd year)
My name is Emma Carson and I am a second year ordinand at CITI. I’m originally from Lisburn but have lived in Edinburgh and in Belfast. I worked as a primary school teacher before following the call to ordained ministry. My sponsoring Diocese is Down and Dromore and I attend both Willowfield Parish and Braniel Community Church.
I began to hear the first whispers of God’s calling in 2009 but at this point I was committed to my teaching career. In recent years I began to understand that I could not ignore God’s call on my life. I began to pray for confirmation and affirmation which I received through God’s Word, through his Holy Spirit and through the support of my sponsoring Bishop, Rector and my DDO. I have been on quite a journey since and I have felt God’s guiding hand throughout.
Most recently I have been on placement in Magheralin Parish. I also very much enjoyed my Year 1 placement in St Peter’s Parish in North Belfast. I was given the exciting opportunity to travel to Hong Kong on a three–week placement in May 2017. My placement was facilitated through DUFEM (Dublin University Far Eastern Mission), Ming Hua Theological College and CITI. As well as attending some classes at Ming Hua, I spent time at St John’s Cathedral in the Diocese of Hong Kong Island and in St Philip’s in the Diocese of Western Kowloon. I was also able to visit many local churches, and outreach programmes throughout Hong Kong.
My heart is for the local church, for mission and discipleship. My studies here at CITI have been invaluable in preparing for ministry in the Church of Ireland. I am very much looking forward to the rest of my training and my Deacon Internship next year.
