The academic staff of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute and Edgehill Theological College met recently in Belfast before the beginning of the academic year in both theological colleges.

The two faculties met in the Methodist theological college in Belfast at the invitation of the Principal of Edgehill, the Revd Dr Richard Clutterbuck.

Both groups meet regularly and staff and students of the two colleges share a number of programmes, including an annual integrative seminar.

But this is their first joint meeting since the General Synod of the Church of Ireland and the Conference of the Methodist Church in Ireland endorsed measures in the Covenant providing for full inter–changeability of ordained ministry between the two churches.

The participants at the Belfast meeting were:

Church of Ireland Theological Institute: the Revd Dr Maurice Elliott, Director; the Revd Canon Patrick Comerford, Lecturer in Anglicanism, Liturgy and Church History; Dr Katie Hefflefinger, Lecturer in Biblical Studies and Hermeneutics; the Revd Dr Patrick McGlinchey, Lecturer in Missiology and Pastoral Theology; the Revd Jennifer McWhirter, co–ordinator of CME; and Mr David Brown, Director of Lay Training.

Edgehill Theological College: the Revd Dr Richard Clutterbuck, College Principal; the Revd John Alderdice, Director of Ministry; and the Revd Dr Janet Unsworth, Director of Studies.
