The MTh is an innovative postgraduate degree designed for those preparing for ministry. Taught in conjunction with Trinity College, Dublin, it combines academic rigour with cutting edge teaching methodology. The external review of the programme conducted six years after its inception compared what was on offer with best practice across the sector.
One of its key strengths is the collegial atmosphere in which the teaching taking place and the strong send of community that arises out of that. The Institute is committed to an holistic learning experience in which students are stretched academically while also being given the tools to contextualise their learning and integrate it with their ongoing spiritual formation.
The blend of in–depth academic study and pastoral practice is given its fullest outworking in a third year diaconal internship which combines extensive parish experience with the writing of a Masters dissertation. See the links for a fuller discussion of the programme.
The full–time MTh is conducted over a three–year period and is undertaken residentially. The final year is blended learning within a parish context with students ordinarily resident in the Institute one week in four.
The part–time MTh is a four–year part–time course taught by means of blended distance learning and residential input over 36 weekends. The students undertake the same modules as those in full–time and are qualified at the end for stipendiary ministry.
