Student Summer placement 2018

Ross Meneely

During my summer placement I spent three weeks at Annaghmore Parish Church in Co. Armagh. The parish is a small country parish located in the village of Annaghmore between Portadown and Loughgall. My three weeks there was an extremely pleasant and challenging experience. I felt that a good working relationship with my supervisor helped me to flourish in the time I was there and we both felt we could be open and honest with each other. The congregation where extremely open with me and any ideas I brought during my time there. Whilst in Annaghmore I gained a variety of experiences. These experiences included hospital and homes visits, leading church services and preaching. It was a unique experience to lead a service using screens instead of a prayer book and found the experience very enjoyable. I also attended meetings for their Sunday school and shadowed meetings for the new parish centre in which Annaghmore had just opened. On the 12thJuly I assisted with the carpark and burger stall which the church was providing at the celebrations in Loughgall. We had a really good days fun and made plenty of connections with those whom we served. I also got to shadow a wedding and do the Bible reading. I also got to shadow Dorothy the rector at a funeral by leading prayers and providing pastoral care to the family during the planning of the funeral. After three weeks Annaghmore became like home to me and feel extremely blessed to have done my three–week placement here
