Previous Ordination Training
Under the previous system there were two courses available depending on whether you were offering for Full Time Stipendiary Ministry or Non Stipendiary Ministry
Full Time Stipendiary Ministry - Bachelor of Theology
Most full time ordinands used to study for the degree of Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) of the University of Dublin (Trinity College). This was a three year course and was the usual requirement for ordination in the Church of Ireland for stipendiary ministry.
Teaching for these courses was, as in the current training, shared by the staff of the college and the School of Hebrew, Theological and Biblical Studies in Trinity College.
The course was divided into three broad areas: Theological Studies, Biblical Studies and Pastoral Studies.

Non-Stipendiary Ministry - Diploma in Higher Education
Students training for non-stipendiary ministry at the Church of Ireland Theological College studied for the Diploma in Higher Education. This is an Open University degree which the college was running in conjunction with St John’s Nottingham Theological College.
The course runs in two parts. Students first complete the work for the Certificate in Higher Education before beginning the Diploma level work.
This course was run as a three year non-residential training, supplemented by weekend and summer school.
